In the third installment of our Top-10 Haunted Inns series, we find ourselves surrounded by the unique architecture of the Prospect Hill B&B Inn, at 801 W. Main Street, Mountain City, Tennessee. Living in this 1889 Victorian shingle-style home Major Joseph Wagner, a Civil War veteran from the Union side, built a small empire for himself in the mercantile and mining businesses in the post-war era. In 1910, the Rambo family purchased the home, and updated it with electricity, plumbing, and even central heat, over the course of three generations.
Today, Prospect Hill stands as a five-bedroom B&B Inn, with modern bathrooms and a particularly Victorian flair all its own. The home’s true claim to fame, however, is the ghosts who still reside on the property. Visitors have reported shadows turning corners, chills, and the ethereal sound of a crying infant. Prospect Hill has been the inspiration for numerous books, short stories, and research articles over the years, mostly focused on the paranormal happenings in the home. A trip to Prospect Hill Bed & Breakfast Inn will yield, at the least, an interesting look into an architectural icon, as well as the opportunity to stay in a ‘real’ haunted house… If you’d like to find out more about Prospect Hill B&B Inn, simply click on this link to visit their website.
